My work is rooted in the black feminine body as it moves through space, seeping below time's surface to move inward. The body becomes the gateway to the universe and its mysteries—a pathway to the sensuous and dangerous interior landscape. My work is an exploration of these opposing forces, a navigation between artifice and authenticity, fantasy and reality, violence and desire, and the mythological and the mundane. Working with these tensions, I draw from sources spanning the disciplines of dance, theater, performance art, film and sound to create sensorial, tactile work which places both movement and material at it center.
